I just came from a briefing with Todd Herman, whose new media-technology start-up, SpinSpotter, is getting a lot of attention. In a nutshell, it's a browser-based Web application that highlights and dissects the "spin" in news stories, press releases, and even advertising and marketing copy.

Highland Capital Partners has led a $28.7 million Series C round of funding for Digg Inc., a Seattle-based social news website, according to company officials.Lexington, Mass.-based Highland Capital was joined in the funding by previous Digg investors Greylock Partners, which operates an office in Waltham, Omidyar Network and SVB Capital.
