Whoa. This is surprising. There had been talk of Starbucks slowing its expansion plans. But there was little indication that it was going to start making cuts of this magnitude. Previously, the company said it might shut 100 stores. Add 500 to that total. The coffee giant is shutting 600 stores and cutting 12,000 jobs. As you might have read in recent days, an Ontario Superior Court judge has released copies of a videotaped interview between Toronto police and convicted murderer Paul Bernardo. Bernardo was interviewed at the Kingston penitentiary in June 2007 about whether he had any involvement in the disappearance of University of Toronto student Elizabeth Bain, who has not been seen since June 1990. The good news: Anaheim did have the desired positive affect, I think…once I recover from the conference. Which always takes a day or three. I probably won’t post a lot about the conference itself. (Relatively poorly-attended, probably because of travel costs, and I think that’s the future; actually reasonably convenient; the program I spoke at was up against 36 or 37 other programs at the same time…), but did have a couple of odd notes relating to the Hilton, which is undergoing renovation:
